Sony to End MD Players Sales in March

Sony announced on Thursday that it will stop shipping the CMT-M35WM, a stereo system capable of playing and recording MiniDiscs, this March. With this move, Sony will end the sales of all MD players and recorders. However, it will continue to accept repair requests and manufacture the MiniDiscs themselves.
MiniDisc was once the premium audio recording medium in Japan, but demand slumped as more people turned towards portable audio players and smartphones that use flash memory instead.
