Doraemon Co-Creator to End Autobiographical Manga

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Manga Michi & Ai…Shirisomeshi Kei ni sequel ran on and off for 43 years

This year's May special issue of Shogakukan's Big Comic Original magazine will publish the final chapter of Motoo Abiko's Ai…Shirisomeshi Kei ni sequel manga. Abiko, who also goes by the name Fujiko Fujio A and is one half of the creative duo behind the Doraemon manga, launched the Manga Michi semi-autobiographical manga in Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion in 1970. He launched the Ai…Shirisomeshi Kei ni sequel series in 1989.

Manga Michi revolves around the characters Maga Michi and Shigeru Saino, who were modeled after Akibo and Hiroshi Fujimoto (Fujiko F. Fujio) respectively. The manga also features appearances by the other manga creators who once lived in the famous "Tokiwa-sō," a Tokyo apartment in Toshima Ward: Osamu Tezuka, Fujio Akatsuka, Hiroo Terada, and Shōtarō Ishinomori. The Ai…Shirisomeshi Kei ni sequel follows the characters as they are a little older and are pursuing their dreams of becoming manga creators.

Shogakukan published the 11th volume of Ai…Shirisomeshi Kei ni in March.

Besides Doraemon, Fujiko Fujio A is credited for Ninja Hattori-kun and other works after the team split up to do solo work.
