Anime Boston announced on Tuesday that director Shinichi Watanabe (aka Nabeshin) and military consultant Yasuhiro Koshi would appear at the May 24-26 event at the Hynes Convention Center.

Nabeshin is known for directing the anime comedies Excel Saga, Nerima Daikon Brothers, and Puni Puni Poemy as well as The Wallflower and Tenchi Muyo GXP. The director has also gained fame for his signature hairstyle and red jacket, as seen in his anime cameos and at his convention appearances.

As previously reported, Nabeshin recently suffered a heart attack and is currently hospitalized. Anime Boston provided ANN with the following comment regarding the director's convention appearance:

We have been in touch with Mr. Watanabe over the past few days since his heart attack on Sunday. He has given us all indications that he will be able to attend Anime Boston 2013 this year.

As such, he is in our thoughts and we hope for his successful recovery.

Anime Boston will mark Nabeshin's first appearance at an anime convention in the Northeast.

Koshi is an actor and military adviser for films. Drawing on his experience in Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force, he has advised combat scenes, weapon designs, and military roles for movies such as the live-action 20th Century Boys, Space Battleship Yamato, and SaiKano films. Koshi also writes articles for the Japanese periodical Arms Magazine and works as a talent manager for the Big Fighter Project, which produces artists.

Nabeshin and Koshi join previously-announced guests Chris Ayres, Greg Ayres, Lauren Landa, Cherami Leigh, Shinitirou Kashiwada, Tomohiko Ito, David Matranga, ORIGA, Bryce Papenbrook, Raj Ramayya, Stephanie Sheh, Tom Wayland and Kari Wahlgren.
