Meshibana Deka Tachibana Live-Action Drama's 2 TV Ads Streamed

Adaptation of Sahee Sakado, Tori Tabii's gourmet police manga premiered on Wednesday

TV Tokyo began streaming two ads for the live-action drama adaptation of Sahee Sakado and Tori Tabii's Meshi Bana Deka Tachibana manga this week. The first video introduces the cast, and the second video previews the series' second episode, which will air next Wednesday. The drama series premiered in Japan on Wednesday.

The gourmet police manga follows middle-aged Detective Tachibana, nicknamed "Meshibana" for the Japanese word for "meal" because of his extensive knowledge of food. His unconventional detective work involves getting people to open up by talking about food. The policewoman Muranaka is his calm coworker who is the foil to Tachibana's eccentricity. The show will star Jirō Satō (Gokusen, Densha Otoko) as Tachibana, AKB48's Tomomi Kasai as Muranaka, Hitoshi Ozawa (Elite Yankee Saburo) as Nirasawa, Mirai Suzuki as Gotō, Yōichi Nukumizu (Always San-chōme no Yūhi '64) as Konno, and Yoshiaki Umegaki (Tokyo Godfathers' Hana) as Takehara.

Sakado and Tabii's manga currently runs in Tokuma Shoten's Weekly Asahi Geinō magazine, and the company published the ninth compiled volume earlier this month. Takarajimasha Inc.'s annual Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook had ranked the manga as the #9 manga for male readers in 2011.
