Kōichi Sasakibara has just transferred into a new school, Yomiyama North Middle School's class 3-3 in fact. But this class carries a mystery that dates back to 1972 involving the death of a student, a mystery that Kōichi and his beautiful and peciular classmate Mei Misaki are quickly drawn into.

Another is based off the light novel by Yukito Ayatsuji, originally serialized in Kadokawa Shoten's Tasai Jidai literary magazine intermittently between August 2006 and May 2009. The light novel has been collected several times, adapted into manga by Hiro Kiyohara from May 2010 and January 2012 for Kadokawa Shoten's Young Ace magazine and additionally been adapted into a live-action film directed by Takeshi Furusawa in 2012. The series has been streamed by Crunchyroll worldwide, planned for release on DVD and Blu-ray in America by Section23 and in England by MVM. The original light novel and manga adaptation have been translated and published by Yen Press.

Ayatsuji has stated that he plans to create more Another novels. He's announced a spinoff tentatively titled "Another: Episode S." and later a sequel to the original novel will be written.

The Another television anime series was directed by Tsutomu Mizushima (Blood-C, xxxHOLiC) at the studio P.A. Works. Ryō Higaki (Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit) wrote the scripts and Yuriko Ishii (Persona -trinity soul-) adapted the original character designs by Noizi Ito (Haruhi Suzumiya, Shakugan no Shana) for animation. Kô Ôtani (Shakugan no Shana, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Hakuōki) composed the music and Yoshikazu Iwanami directed the sound at the production company Lantis. Kōichi Sasakibara is voiced by Atsushi Abe (Moritaka Mashiro in Bakuman. and Toma Kamijo in A Certain Magical Index) and Natsumi Takamori (Rin Kirita in Saki Episode of Side A and Sasha Staple in Bodacious Space Pirates) provides the voice of Mei Misaki.
