Gundam: The 08th MS Team helmer Iida, Cowboy Bebop designer Kawamoto create story of colony devastated after accident

North American video distributor Discotek Media announced on Tuesday that it licensed the Mighty Space Miners original video anime by the late director Umanosuke Iida (Hellsing, Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, Towa no Quon) and Triangle Staff. The 1994 project featured the character designs of Toshihiro Kawamoto, who had just worked on Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory, and would later become famous for Golden Boy, Cowboy Bebop, and Wolf's Rain. The two-episode science-fiction anime (originally planned for six parts) was previously released in North America by ADV Films on VHS.

The anime follows a space mining colony after it is accidentally devastated by a weapon. The stranded survivors search for one another among the wreckage in hopes of finding a way home.

Discotek revealed on Sunday that it has licensed a 1970s-era Toei anime production. The title of the acquisition has yet to be revealed.
