Machiisha Jumbo!! Medical Manga Gets Live Action Drama

posted on by Karen Ressler
Daisuke Maki, Shiori Kutsuna star in drama airing this July

Ryō Koshino's manga series Machiisha Jumbo!! (Town Doctor Jumbo!!) will get a live-action drama adaptation this summer beginning July 4. The show will air late at night on Thursdays on NTV.

Daisuke Maki (of the boy band EXILE) will play "Dr. Jumbo," the hospital director, and Shiori Kutsuna (Ran in Detective Conan: Kudo Shinichi e no Chōsenjō) will play Hichō, the nurse who is the daughter of the previous hospital director. Other cast members include Yō Yoshida, Yuko Fueki, and Toshinori Omi.

Machiisha Jumbo!! is currently serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Gendai magazine, and the seventh compiled volume will ship this Thursday. The story follows the local hospital director "Dr. Jumbo," whose nickname comes from his unlikely appearance. He argues frequently with Hichō, but saves his patients with his great skill as a doctor.
