posted on by Egan Loo
July 13 launch for 1 of 3 new series marking Shonen Jump's 45th anniversary

This year's 31st issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is announcing on Monday that Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball, Dr. Slump) is launching a new manga series called Ginga Patrol Jako (Jaco the Galactic Patrolman) in the 33rd issue on July 13. As the magazine puts it, "The 'legend' of hope for the entire world returns here!!" The new series is one of three marking the 45th anniversary of the magazine.

Toriyama and manga artist Masakazu Katsura (DNA², Video Girl Ai) collaborated on a manga mini-series called Jiya in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine in 2009. (The two creators have previously collaborated on a one-shot manga in Shueisha's Jump Square magazine in 2008.) Toriyama then created a one-shot manga called "Kintoki" in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2010. Viz Media has published Toriyama's Dragon Ball, Sand Land, Cowa!, Dr. Slump, and "Kintoki" manga in North America.
