Live-Action Rurouni Kenshin to Screen at Hawaii Int'l Film Fest

Adaptation of Nobuhiro Watsuki's samurai manga to screen at October 10-13 event

The 33rd Annual Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) announced on Thursday the first ten films that will screen at the event, among which is the live-action film adaptation of Rurouni Kenshin. The festival will be held on October 10-13. The event's organizers have not yet announced the screening times for the films.

Nobuhiro Watsuki's popular samurai manga Rurouni Kenshin was remade as a live-action feature film in Japan in August 2012. Keishi Ōtomo directed the film with 22-year-old actor Takeru Satoh (Kamen Rider Den-O, Rookies, Beck, Ryōmaden) as the titular character and 17-year-old actress Emi Takei as the heroine Kaoru Kamiya. The film premiered in North America at the LA EigaFest 2012 in December, and was then screened in Montreal on July 20 and in San Francisco on July 28 and August 1. The film will premiere on the East Coast at Baltimore's Otakon next weekend.

Last year's HIFF screened Wolf Children, the live-action Thermae Romae film, several Hayao Miyazaki films, Ultraman Saga, and the Korean animation The King of Pigs.
