Magi Anime's English Dub to Premiere at Anime Weekend Atlanta

1st episode to premiere at September 27-29 event before it streams on Neon Alley next month

Anime Weekend Atlanta and Aniplex of America announced on Thursday that the convention will host the English dub premiere of the Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic television anime series. The convention will screen the first full episode of the series before it premieres on Viz Media's Neon Alley service in October. Aniplex of America will have a special guest greeting and a raffle to win Magi prizes at the screening.

Magi, which adapts Shinobu Ohtaka's fantasy adventure manga, re-imagines tales from the classic story One Thousand and One Nights (also known as Arabian Nights). Director Koji Masunari (Read or Die, Welcome to THE SPACE SHOW) helmed the 25-episode anime adaptation at A-1 Pictures. Toshifumi Akai (Kokoro Connect, Sound of the Sky) served as the character designer and chief animation director, and Hiroyuki Yoshino (Accel World, Guilty Crown, My-HiME) handled the scripts. Shiro Sagisu (Bleach, Evangelion, Berserk films) composed the music.

The anime premiered in Japan last October, and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired. Aniplex of America announced last October that it had licensed the series.

Viz Media is releasing the original manga in North America. The manga is also inspiring the Magi: The Kingdom of Magic television anime sequel series that will premiere in October.

Anime Weekend Atlanta will take place at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel, the Cobb Galleria Centre, and the Sheraton Suites Galleria from September 27-29. The convention is also hosting Touhou Project's ZUN, voice actress Yuu Asakawa, voice actors Mitsuo Iwata and Toshio Furukawa, model Misako Aoki, Putumayo designer Shunsuke Hasegawa, and musical guests Bless4 with AKINO and kors k. Also attending are the following voice actors and actresses: Chris Sabat, Todd Haberkorn, Johnny Yong Bosch, Vic Mignogna, Lisle Wilkerson, and Amy Howard Wilson.
