'Heart-Filled' Shinto-themed anime to begin on October 6 at at 1:05 p.m. ET

Video service Crunchyroll announced on Wednesday that it will stream the Gingitsune: Messenger Fox of the Gods television anime series. It will begin streaming the weekly anime on October 6 at 1:05 p.m. ET. to premium subscribers worldwide except for Asia. The anime will be available to free members one week later in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Spain, Central and South America, and Portugal.

In the story, Makoto is the heiress to a shrine that was built in honor of Inari. Even though her father manages the shrine, Inari's messenger, Gintarō, suddenly appears in her life marking her as the true successor. Gintarō is lazy and unmotivated, but has the power to help people. The series is described as a "heart-filled fantasy" as Makoto and Gintarō help people who come to the shrine and make new friends.

Sayori Ochiai's original manga already inspired an audio adaptation in 2010. That version featured voice actress Kanae Itō as Makoto and voice actor Toshihiko Seki as Makoto's father. Toshihiko Seki was cast in the anime, however he is the voice of Shōhei Amamoto.

The voice cast includes:

Hisako Kanemoto as Makoto Saeki, the second-year high school student whose family has watched over the shrine for 15 generations

Shinichirō Miki as Gintarō, the messenger to the gods

Toshihiko Seki as Tatsuo Saeki, Makoto's father

Ami Koshimizu as Hiwako Funabashi, Makoto's classmate

Chinatsu Akasaki as Yumi Ikegami, Makoto's classmate

Ayumi Fujimura as Haru

Kenshō Ono as Satoru Kamio

Kazuhiko Inoue (Naruto, Case Closed) as Kinjirō

Tomokazu Sugita (Gintama, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) as Seishirō Kirishima

Hirofumi Nojima (Shakugan no Shana, Hunter x Hunter) as Shinichi Yoshizumi

Tomokazu Seki (Fate/Zero, Card Captor Sakura) as Shōhei Amamoto

Shin Misawa (Kochira Katsushika-ku Kamearikouen-mae Hashutsujo) is directing the anime at diomedéa. Hiroshi Yamaguchi (Yukikaze, Rosario + Vampire) is in charge of the series scripts, and Mayuko Matsumoto (animation director on Astarotte's Toy, Squid Girl) and Naomi Ide (Problem children are coming from another world, aren't they?) are both designing the characters. The musical group fhána (The Eccentric Family ending theme) will perform the opening theme.
