Majestic Prince Sequel Not Yet Green-Lit

posted on by Rae First

In an interview in the Majestic Prince -The Heroic Gene- booklet bundled with the November issue of Kadokawa's Newtype magazine on Thursday, series director Keitaro Motonaga reported that although a second season of the Majestic Prince anime has not been green-lit, he would like to participate in the project if the chance arises. He told Newtype:

A sequel has still not been decided, but personally, I definitely want to do it, so if there's a chance, I want to make it.

Financial firm Fields Corporation revealed in August that it is contemplating creating a second season of the Ginga Kikōtai Majestic Prince (Majestic Prince) anime.

The story of the anime (and Rando Ayamine and Hikaru Arashima's manga) takes place in the Earth calendar year of 2110, where humanity has expanded its frontier into space in a quest for resources. Advances in genetic engineering research allow humans to adapt to the new frontier, leading to the advent of evolved children such as the protagonist Izuru (played by Hiroki Aiba). Izuru enrolls in an academy city, where students learn to pilot robotic mecha to protect humanity from the invasion of a mysterious lifeform known as "Wulgaru."

As part of the MJP Project, Izuru is assigned the impossible task of leading Team Rabbits — the team nicknamed the "Zannen 5" (Disappointing Five): Toshikazu Asagi (Shintarō Asanuma), Tamaki Irie (Yuka Iguchi), Kei Kugimiya (Yōko Hikasa), and Ataru Suruga (Junya Ikeda).

The television series premiered in Japan on April 4, and the final episode was aired last month. Sentai Filmworks licensed the anime for digital and home video release in North America. Crunchyroll is currently streaming the anime outside of Japan.
