Shadow Skill's Megumu Okada draws story of female sword fighter's journey

Acclaimed manga creator Kazuo Koike (Lone Wolf and Cub, Crying Freeman) launched the manga series Deku ~BLOCK HEAD~ with artist Megumu Okada (Shadow Skill, Saint Seiya Episode.G) in the December issue of Akita Shoten's Champion RED magazine on Saturday.

The story follows the journey of a traveling female sword fighter, who is burdened with a tragic fate, and her lover. The first chapter is set on a battlefield during a water shortage as the couple struggles to continue their journey.

Koike launched the magical girl series Mahō Shōjo Mimitsuki Mimi no QED online in 2012. He currently serializes Yume Genji Tsurugi no Saimon with artist Natsuki Tsumeraki in Kadokawa Shoten's Samurai Ace magazine, Shin Nijitte Monogatari Tsuru Jirō in Koike Shoin's Gattsupon magazine, and several others.

Dark Horse Comics publishes the Lone Wolf and Cub manga in North America, while Media Blasters licensed a Japanese live-action television series based on it. Previously, AnimEigo licensed a Japanese 1972 live-action film version and its five sequels. Both Viz and Dark Horse Comics published Crying Freeman, and Dark Horse Comics also licensed Koike's Lady Snowblood and Color of Rage.

Okada resumed Saint Seiya Episode.G prequel manga in Champion RED in March. Okada is best know for creating the Shadow Skill manga that inspired several television and video anime adaptations. Okada also conceived of the story behind Tenma's FAIR PLAYS. Manga Entertainment released the Shadow Skill video anime, while ADV Films released the Shadow Skill - Eigi television anime series.
