Takashi Miike Directs Sōta Fukushi in Live-Action Kami-sama no Iu Toori Film

Hirona Yamazaki, Ryunosuke Kamiki to co-star in film slated to open in fall 2015

Takashi Miike is directing the live-action film adaptation of Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Akeji Fujimura's Kami-sama no Iu Toori (As the Gods Will) manga. Hiroyuki Yatsu (Hanzawa Naoki, Ikigami: The Ultimate Limit) is writing the scripts.

The story of the original horror-survival manga begins when strange and frightening things start happening at Shun Takahata's high school. After his teacher is killed, he and his classmates must play horrifying games in order to avoid death.

The movie will star Sōta Fukushi (live-action Library Wars/Toshokan Sensō, pictured far left in image at left) as Shun Takahata. Hirona Yamazaki (Lesson of the Evil, Kyō, Koi o Hajimemasu, pictured center) will play Shun's childhood friend Ichika Akimoto, and Ryunosuke Kamiki (Summer Wars, Howl's Moving Castle, Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Taika-hen, pictured right) will play Shun's violence-loving classmate Takeru Amaya.

Kaneshiro wrote the story while Fujimura drew the artwork for the Kami-sama no Iu Toori manga's first arc in Kodansha's monthly Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine from 2011 to 2012. The manga resumed with a second arc ("Ni") in this year's seventh issue of Weekly Shōnen Magazine and Crunchyroll is publishing the sequel series online simultaneously with its Japanese release.

Miike will film the movie between June-October 2014, and the film is slated to open in theaters in Japan next fall.

Miike's live-action adaptation of Noboru Takahashi's crime manga Mogura no Uta (Mole's Song) will open in theaters in February. His live-action adaptation of Yūsuke Kishi's Aku no Kyōten (Lesson of the Evil) psychological suspense novel ran in Japanese theaters this year. Among dozens of other titles, he recently directed the Ace Attorney game's live-action film, the Crows Zero prequel to Hiroshi Takahashi's Crows manga, and the For Love's Sake film version of Ikki Kajiwara's Ai to Makoto manga.
