Bones' Space Dandy Anime Inspires Manga in Young Gangan

posted on by Egan Loo
Masafumi Harada drafts manga starting December 20

This year's 24th issue of Square Enix's Young Gangan magazine is announcing on Friday that Bones' Space Dandy anime is inspiring a manga. Masafumi Harada is drafting the story, which will begin with a 60-page chapter with a color opening page in the next issue on December 20.

Space Dandy is the upcoming science-fiction comedy series from director Shinichiro Watanabe (Macross Plus, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Kids on the Slope) and studio BONES. Among the anime's many contributing creators are manga artists Katsuhiro Ōtomo, Atsushi Kamijou, Shōu Tajima, and Katsuya Terada.

The story revolves around Dandy, an alien-hunter. His job is to seek out new aliens never seen before, and receives a reward whenever he finds a new species. His mission is to find those new species faster than anyone else as he travels the galaxy. Together with the bucket-of-bolts robot QT and the dimwit alien Meow he picked up along the way, he comes into contact with new planets and their inhabitants.

Funimation acquired the home entertainment, digital, theatrical, and merchandise rights to the anime. Funimation will also simulcast the subtitled version of the show on its website. Adult Swim's block will host the world premiere of the series on January 4, before the show premieres in Japan.

Update: The artists on this manga are Sung-woo Park (Kurokami/Black God, Oracle of Secret Shrine Maiden) and RED ICE.
