Kane Kosugi Will Not Star in Live-Action Tekken Prequel Film

Actor's management company apologizes for error, states that he will star in Agent X film instead

Actor Kane Kosugi's (Choy Lee Fut, Ninja 2: Shadow of a Tear) management company Destiny Production announced on the actor's blog on Tuesday that he will not be starring in the upcoming live-action Tekken prequel, Tekken: A Man Called X.

The company apologized and explained that due to an error on its part, it reported on December 27 that Kosugi would be playing the titular character "X" in the film. However, the company corrected that Kosugi will be instead starring in the tentatively-titled Agent X film. Destiny Production has since corrected the previous post from December 27, noting that his character will still be called "X" and it will still be Kosugi's first starring role in a Hollywood film. Crystal Sky and Lionsgate are producing Agent X, and that film is slated to begin filming this month.

Tekken: A Man Called X will serve as a prequel to the previous 2010 live-action film adaptation of Namco Bandai Games' Tekken fighting game franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Crystal Sky CEO Steven Paul is planning the prequel "as part of a franchise of movies."

In North America, Anchor Bay released the 2010 film direct to video. Dwight H. Little (Halloween 4, Anacondas) directed the film, which is separate from Digital Frontier's computer-animated film Tekken: Blood Vengeance.
