Sweet Poolside Films's Trailer Streamed

posted on by Sarah Nelkin
Adaptation of The Flowers of Evil's Oshimi's manga opens in theaters June 14

Shochiku began streaming a teaser trailer for the live-action film adaptation of Shūzō Oshimi (The Flowers of Evil, Inside Mari)'s Sweet Poolside manga on Wednesday.

In the video, Toshihiko is bullied by his fellow classmates for having no hair. In an opposite situation, one of the boy whispers about Ayako, saying, “Even though she's a girl, she's so hairy...” When Toshihiko Ota starts shaving her legs for her, he asks, “Is there hair inside there too...?” The narrator says, “Our youth is lonely, and kind of erotic.” At the end of the trailer, Ayako asks Toshihiko to help her shave one more time, and after he starts helping her, he remarks, “So warm...” The video features the theme song "LoVe SHouT!"by Japanese rock band Mowmow Lulu Gyaban.

The story focuses on Toshihiko Ōta, a male swimming club member who has unusually hairless skin. He meets the female swimming club member Ayako Gotō who is unusually hairy.

Kenta Suga (Kamen Rider x Super Sentai x Uchū Keiji Super Hero Taisen Z) will play Toshihiko, while Yuiko Kariya (Suzuki-sensei) will play Ayako. Daigo Matsui (Daily Lives of High School Boys live-action film, Afro Tanaka) will direct the film and write the script.

A television anime adaptation of Oshimi's The Flowers of Evil manga premiered in Japan last April. North American anime licensing company Sentai Filmworks licensed the anime, and Crunchyroll streamed the series into several countries as it aired in Japan. Vertical publishes the original "corrupt pure-love story" manga in North America.

The film will open in Japanese theaters on June 14.
