Date A Live Encore Book to Bundle Unaired Anime Episode

posted on by Egan Loo
December 9 Blu-ray to feature Shidō, Kurumi, and a wedding hall

Kadokawa announced on Monday that the third volume of the Date A Live Encore short story collection will bundle an unaired anime episode in a limited edition. According to Kadokawa's Fujimi Shobo imprint, the new anime will adapt a story episode much anticipated by fans.

The story is set on July 7. "In the midst of the Tanabata festival celebrations, Shidō meets Kurumi, the worst Spirit. And the couple's destination is … a wedding ceremony hall!?"

The limited-edition bundle will ship on December 9. It will include an exclusive variant cover for the book itself, the Blu-ray Disc with the unaired anime episode, and a tall case to hold the Blu-ray.

In Koushi Tachibana's main Date A Live light novel series, an ordinary high school boy named Shidō Itsuka meets a girl who has been rejected by a devastated world. The girl, who Shidō names "Tohka," happens to be one of the Spirits, the beings who wiped out much of humanity 30 years ago. The only way to seal her up is to date her.

Keitaro Motonaga (Getbackers, Jormungand) directed the first Spring 2013 anime season based on the light novels at AIC PLUS+ with visual director Hisashi Saito (Haganai, Heaven's Lost Property). Hideki Shirane (Hayate the Combat Butler, Queen's Blade: Rebellion) was charge of the series scripts, and Takaaki Suzuki (Strike Witches, Last Exile) advised on the world setting, as he has done other anime and manga. Satoshi Ishino (Excel Saga, Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu) designed the characters based on Tsunako's original novel illustrations.

Funimation streamed the first television anime series as it aired in Japan, and it will release the series on dual-audio home video this June. The second anime series will premiere this April.
