One Piece: Unlimited World Red Game Includes 'Battle Colosseum' Mode

PS3, PS Vita, Wii U game with various fighting modes ships in Japan June 12

This year's 21st issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is announcing on Monday that the PlayStation 3, PS Vita, and Wii U port of Namco Bandai Games' One Piece: Unlimited World Red video game will feature a “Battle Colosseum” mode. In this mode, players can challenge four different types of competitions, including Battle Royale, Duel, Boss Rush, and Chaos Battle.

Battle Royale is a battle between two or more fighters, Duel is a fight which pits two players against each other in a one-on-one scuffle, Boss Rush forces the player to fight bosses one after the other without anytime to take a break, and Chaos Battle lets players go wild and defeat many weak enemies. When the player saves up enough points from victories at the Colosseum, he/she will be able to unlock new quests.

The game allows for up to four players to play together, and players can explore the world of One Piece with their friends. Players can embark on different quests and battle enemies with many of the manga and anime's familiar characters. The game also allows players to fish, catch bugs, hunt for treasure, and more to develop and train their characters. The game features the original character Red (voiced by Masachika Ichimura), the game's nemesis who aims to be the Pirate King. Standing in his way are the Straw Hat Pirates and a new raccoon character named Pat (TARAKO).

Ganbarion developed the "multi action-adventure" title. The game features original characters designed by series' creator Eiichiro Oda, such as Red, Pat, and Yadoya (Rumi Hiiragi).

The game already shipped for Nintendo 3DS in Japan last November, and it inspired two Nintendo 3DS XL color variants in Japan: Luffy Red and Chōpper Pink. The first copies of the game include the download codes for a limited adventure costume of Luffy from One Piece Film Strong World, as well as an additional Marineford quest with Ace as a playable character.

All versions of the game will ship in Japan on June 12. The PlayStation 3 and Wii U versions will retail for 6,640 yen (about US$65), and the PS Vita version will sell for 5,690 yen (US$56). The game will be released in North America, Europe, and Australasia this year.
