Nintendo 3DS Sells 159,000 in U.S. in March

Research analyst David Gibson reported on Twitter on Thursday the March sales figures for several Nintendo and Sony consoles and portable devices in the United States:

• Nintendo 3DS – 159,000 units
• Wii U – “just over” 70,000 units
• Wii – 28,000 units
• PlayStation Vita – “little over” 10,000 units
• PlayStation Portable – “around” 5,000 units

The NPD Group reported in January that hardware sales increased 50% in the United States in 2013. The Nintendo 3DS was the best-selling console of 2013 with a total of 11.5 million 3DS systems sold to date in the United States.

Nintendo announced in January that it cut sales projections for both the 3DS and Wii U. Wii projections increased despite the console no longer being in production.
