Kei Sadayasu's Nanto Magoroku Baseball Manga Ends After 33 Years

Kei Sadayasu's Nanto Magoroku baseball manga ended in the June issue of Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine on Friday. The series' 33-year run began in the magazine in February 1981.
The story begins when baseball genius Magoroku Kai enters an Osaka high school known for delinquents. Trouble continues for Magoroku as he progresses through his high school, professional, and major league baseball career. In the 391st and final chapter, Magoroku leads Japanese players in a battle against a Cuban team.
The manga is the longest running series in any monthly shōnen magazine. The 80th compiled volume shipped in January, and the 81st is slated to ship in July.
Sadayasu's other works include the sumo manga Ah -- Harima-nada and the Okashina Futari manga that won a Kodansha Manga Award in 1985. Ah -- Harima-nada inspired a television anime series in 1992. Sadayasu launched a new baseball manga, Four Seam, in 2013.
The creator's son Sadayasu launched the cyber action manga series Ōsama-tachi no Viking (Kings' Viking) with Psycho-Pass scriptwriter Makoto Fukami in 2013.
