Supanova Pop Culture Expo Hits Sydney this Friday

The Supanova tour continues in Sydney at the Sydney Showground from Friday the 13th to Sunday the 15th of June 2014. The special guests include voice actors Vic Mignogna, Todd Haberkorn, Chuck Huber, Michele Specht, Yuri Lowenthal and Tara Platt.

Details

  • Where: Sydney Showground, Olympic Park, Sydney, NSW.
  • When: Friday the 13th to Sunday the 15th of June.
  • Cost: Weekend passes start from $62.50 online and $70 at the door. Daily tickets from $27.50 online or $30 at the door. The event is now all three days with the entire expo open from 1pm to 8pm on Friday.

Vic Mignogna

Vic Mignogna is one of the most extensive anime voice actors around having worked for ADV Films, Funimation and Viz Media with his most famous role being Eldward Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist / Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Vic's credits include Broly in Dragon Ball Z, Ichiru Kiryu / Zero Kiryu in Vampire Knight, Fay D. Flourite in Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, Christopher Aonuma in Digimon Fusion, Ikkaku Madarame in Bleach, Tamaki Suou in Ouran High School Host Club and Young Obito Uchiha / Madara Uchiha in Naruto Shippuden. Vic being a musician not only released six studio albums but has recorded English covers of songs from One Piece, Fullmetal Alchemist, Ouran High School Host Club and Dragon Ball GT. He has also been responsible for many video game characters including Junpei Lori in Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3, Dampierre in Soulcalibur, Malzahar in League of Legends and M.A.O in Disgaea.

Todd Haberkorn

An Actor, Director, Producer and Writer, Todd Haberkorn also provides the lead roles of Natsu Dragneel in Fairy Tail, Kimihiro Watanuki in xxxHOLiC, Kimimaro Yoga in C – Control – The Money and Soul of Possibility, Allen Walker in D.Gray-man, Tsukune Aono in Rosario + Vampire and Death the Kid in Soul Eater. This is in addition to Keroro in Sgt. Frog, Hikaru Hitachiin in Ouran High School Host Club, Izumo Kusanagi in K, Keisuke Takahashi in Initial D, Italy in Hetalia - Axis Powers and Momo'o Inugami in Goog Luck Girl. Most recently you can catch Todd as the voice of the villainous Oberon / Nobuyuki Sugo in Sword Art Online.

Todd will be hosting a panel from 12:30pm on Saturday and 12:40pm on Sunday in the Supanova Pop Culture Expo Seminars room

Chuck Huber

Chuck is a ADR director, script writer and voice actor known for his work with Funimation. He has been responsible for the English scripts on Hetalia - Axis Powers, Dragon Ball Z, Aria the Scarlet Ammo, One Piece, Spice and Wolf and Strike Witches and Baccano! and has done ADR direction on The Tower of Druaga: the Sword of Uruk and Baccano! His voice roles have included Dr. Franken Stein in Soul Eater, Aleister Crowley in A Certain Magical Index, Christophe Blanc in Eureka Seven AO, Eric Nishijima in Darker than Black, Toshiyuki Sawada in Robotics; Yuichi Tachibana in Initial D, Notes and Hiei in Yu Yu Hakusho.

Chuck will be holding a panel at 2:30pm on Friday in the Madman National Cosplay Theatre and at 4:20pm on Saturday in the Supanova Pop Culture Expo Seminars room.

Michele Specht

Michele is a American voice actor with roles in Darker than Black, Ouran High School Host Club, Fractale and MÄR. You might recognise her work as Tabitha in Claymore and Yurianne Faithful in Linebarrels of Iron. Michele has also done video game work playing Sandy Cat in Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica and Wang Yi in Dynasty Warriors.

Maile Flanagan

Maile is an American actor with roles in the television series Lab Rats, Shameless and Bad Teacher, the films Yes Man and Rango and voice work on the games Final Fantasy XIII / XIII-2 and Valkyria Chronicles 2. However you would know Maile as the English voice of Naruto Uzumaki in both Naruto and Naruto Shippūden and most recently released Naruto Shippūden: Blood Prison.

Maile will be co-hosting a Naruto panel with Yuri Lowenthal and Tara Platt at 3:00pm on Friday and another panel on Sunday at 11:30pm in the Madman National Cosplay Theatre.

Yuri Lowenthal

A prolific voice actor it is unlikely that you haven't encountered Yuri's voice as he is most famous for his role as Ben Tennyson in Ben 10. However his anime voice acting roles are many and numerous with Yuri providing the voices of Sasuke Uchiha in Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, Simon in Gurren Lagann, Sena Kobayakawa in Eyeshield 21, Yosuke Hanamura in Persona 4: The Animation, Barnaby Brooks Jr. in Tiger & Bunny, Suzaku Kururugi in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and Gen Kurai in Tenkai Knights. He's also played Haseo in .hack//G.U, Luka in Bayonetta, Guan Ping in Dynasty Warriors 5, Alucard in Castlevania - The Dracula X Chronicles and Castlevania Judgment and the Prince of Persia in Ubisoft's series of Prince of Persia games.

Yuri will be co-hosting a Naruto panel with Tara Platt and Maile Flanagan at 3:00pm on Friday and another panel on Sunday at 11:30pm in the Madman National Cosplay Theatre.

Tara Platt

Games, Anime, Live-action, nothing is too tough for Tara Platt with roles in anime as Temari in Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, Barasuishou in Rozen Maiden: Träumend, Marida Cruz in Mobile Suit Gundam UC, Caster in Fate/Stay Night and most recently Seri Awashima in K. You can also catch Tara playing Flavia and Miriel in Fire Emblem Awakening, Mitsuru Kirijo in Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3, Tron Bonne in Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, Alice in Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward, Vert in Hyperdimension Neptunia and Katarina du Couteau in League of Legends.

Tara will be co-hosting a Naruto panel with Yuri Lowenthal and Maile Flanagan at 3:00pm on Friday and another panel on Sunday at 11:30pm in the Madman National Cosplay Theatre.

Additional Events

Madman National Cosplay Championship

The Sydney heat of the MNCC is scheduled for Saturday in the Madman National Cosplay Championship Theatre at 11:20am. There will be three teams competing and you can find out more on Madman's facebook page.

Hanabee's RWBY Maid Cafe

While not strictly anime, Hanabee will be running a RWBY inspired Maid Cafe at Sydney Supanova with waffle sticks, pancakes, Japanese drinks and the antics you can only find at one of Hanabee's Maid Cafes. The cafe will be running from 1pm to 6pm on Friday and 10am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday, you can view more information here.

Attack on Titan Launch

Madman will be launching their release of Attack on Titan over the weekend with a Titan wall to take photos in front of. Additionally they're seeking as many Attack on Titan cosplayers as possible to meet up at their wall at 3pm on Saturday to try and create the largest AOT cosplayer gathering in the world (considering the Attack from Titan real escape game this does seem unlikely -Ed).

    • 4:20pm - Madman Cosplay Competition - Madman National Cosplay Championship Theatre
