Inferno Cop's Amemiya to Direct Trigger's Ninja Slayer Anime

Boom Boom Satellites to perform main theme; teaser to be posted on July 6

Studio Trigger revealed at its panel at Anime Expo on Thursday that Inferno Cop director Akira Amemiya will direct the studio's upcoming Ninja Slayer From Animation anime. Amemiya also served as an episode director for Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Kill la Kill, and Black Rock Shooter. He also directed the Gurren Lagann Parallel Works video anime.

Studio Trigger will start production on the anime in 2015, and Boom Boom Satellites (Xam'd: Lost Memories, Mobile Suit Gundam UC) will perform the main theme song "Back in Black." Studio Trigger will reveal the first teaser trailer on the anime's official website on July 6 at 11:00 a.m. EST.

Studio Trigger already unveiled a trailer for the upcoming anime at the Anime Expo panel. Good Smile Company is also selling Ninja Slayers merchandise at the convention.

Trigger also unveiled two new poster images for the anime on Thursday, both drawn by Takashi Okazaki (Afro Samurai).

The "cyberpunk ninja action drama" is set in the near-future city of Neo Saitama, where ninja souls have been unleashed. The story follows Fujikido Kenji, a salaryman whose wife and children were killed in a ninja battle. He is then possessed by a ninja soul and becomes a Ninja Slayer, devoted to killing all ninja to avenge his family.

The story was originally posted piecemeal on Twitter by Japanese "translators" Honda Yu and Sugi Leika, allegedly translating the work of American authors "Bradley Bond and Philip Ninj@ Morzez." After the story grew in popularity, Enterbrain published the first Japanese-translated volume in print, Ninja Slayer: Neo Saitama in Flames, in September 2012. The story then inspired three comic adaptations from Enterbrain and Kodansha, as well as an audio drama with Toshiyuki Morikawa as the title character.

Tokyo Otaku Mode is releasing the first two novels online in English. The company is also releasing a manga version online in English.

Update: Added theme song title. Source: Famitsu
