Gundam Reconguista in G

The Universal Century, an era of historic migration into space and space wars has ended, and some time has passed.

It's now Regild Century Year 1014 (R.C. 1014) where the creation of humanoid mobile suits of war is now taboo. Earth is now connected to space via the sacred orbital elevator, Capital Tower, which humanity uses to bring energy in the form of Photon Batteries to the surface.

Bellri Zenam is a cadet in the Capital Guard, the protectors of the tower. During a training exercise pirates attack the tower and Bellri crosses paths with the G-Self, a mobile suit with unknown technology. Bellri is successful in capturing the suit and it's pilot, Aiida Reihanton, and soon discovers the G-Self, which should only be operable under certain conditions, will now move under his own hand. Now Bellri must pilot the G-Self to uncover the mysteries behind the space pirates, the G-Self and his own destiny. These truths will shake the entire Regild Century to it's core and this is just the beginning of Reconguista.

A brand new series created for the 35th anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam Reconguista in G sees the return of writer/director Yoshiyuki Tomino, the original creator of Mobile Suit Gundam. Work on the series started before 2012 when the idea was called G-Reko and Tomino aimed to develop a "boy-meets-girl-&-robot" theme instead of the "boy-meets-robot" dynamic that his work is known for. The series is planned to run for two cours (half a year / 26 episodes) and is produced by Sunrise.

The team also has Kenichi Yoshida (Eureka Seven) handling character designs alongside mechanical design from Akira Yasuda (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, Overman King Gainer), Ippei Gyōbu (Sacred Seven) and Kimitoshi Yamane (Cowboy Bebop, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed) and additional design work from Shigeto Koyama (Heroman, Gurren Lagann), Kinu Nishimura (Overman King Gainer), Takumo Sakura (Martian Successor Nadesico). GARNiDELiA performs the opening song Music for the series with Tomino writing the lyrics for the closing song under his pen name Rin Iogi with music supplied by the series' composer Yūgo Kanno (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, Psycho-Pass) and Daisuke Hasegawa performing the song.

The first three episodes of Gundam Reconguista in G were compiled in a special early edition for screenings in 13 theaters in Japan from August 23 to September 5. This edition was streamed from the d Anime Store service in Japan from September 8 to September 30. The series will premiere with two episodes tonight (October 2nd) in Japan as part of MBS's Animeism block, Gundam Reconguista in G is the first Gundam series to initially broadcast in a late night timeslot.
