Chaika - The Coffin Princess Manga Ends in Shonen Ace

posted on by Sarah Nelkin
Adaptation of Ichiro Sasaki's novels by Shinta Sakayama began in 2011

The January 2015 issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Shōnen Ace magazine is announcing on Wednesday that Shinta Sakayama's manga adaptation of Ichiro Sasaki's Hitsugi no Chaika (Chaika - The Coffin Princess) light novels will end in the February issue of the magazine, which will ship next month.

Hitsugi no Chaika's story centers around Toru Acura, a 20-year-old retired soldier meandering through life now that the war has ended. He encounters Chaika Trabant, a 14-year-old sorceress carrying a coffin and follows her in hopes of finding meaning to his life again. The two travel with Toru's adopted sister, Akari, the employed member of the group and thus Toru's source of income.

Sakayama began drawing his manga adaptation in Kadokawa Shoten's Monthly Shōnen Ace magazine in its December 2011 issue. Kadokawa Shoten is shipping the fifth compiled volume in Japan on December 26. Yen Press announced last month that it has licensed the manga for North America.

The first season adapting Sasaki's novels premiered in April, and the second cour (quarter of the year) of the anime premiered last month under the title Chaika - The Coffin Princess AVENGING BATTLE. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime as it airs in Japan.
