1st Lodoss Story by Creator in 8 Years Comes With Unaired Anime

posted on by Kyle Cardine

The retail site Manga Oh posted details on the upcoming Lodoss-tō Senki Sanmai (Record of Lodoss War Deluxe) set. The set will include Lodoss-tō Senki: Seiyaku no Hōkan Joshō (Record of Lodoss War: The Pledged Jeweled Crown: Prologue), the first text story that creator Ryo Mizuno has written in the fantasy franchise in eight years. The set will also come with a special DVD of the Meshimase Lodoss-tō Senki Sorette Oishii no? (Have Some, Record of Lodoss War: Is That Delicious?) television anime shorts with unaired footage.

The set will feature a cover and illustrations drawn by Akihiro Yamada (Record of Lodoss War: The Lady of Pharis), an interview with Mizuno, a "hilarious discussion" between Mizuno and fellow writer Satoru Akahori (Saber Marionette, Sakura Wars, Sorcerer Hunters), and an exclusive Record of Lodoss War comic. The set will ship on January 20, 2015.

Record of Lodoss War began as a series of magazine articles that recounted the pencil-and-paper role-playing game sessions of players who called themselves Group SNE. Those fantasy adventures evolved into a series of novels by Mizuno that now have over 10 million copies in print.

The novels in turn inspired manga, two original video anime projects, a full-length television anime series, and two animated film projects. Central Park Media released the 1990 Record of Lodoss War video anime series and the 1998 Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight television anime sequel in North America. One of the animated film projects is Welcome to Lodoss Island! (Yōkoso Lodoss Tō e!), a short that featured the characters in super-deformed form. The super-deformed series Meshimase Lodoss-tō Senki Sorette Oishii no? aired in April.
