Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma's April Premiere, Designs Unveiled

A wall illustration at Warner's Jump Festa 2015 booth confirmed that the television anime of the Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Sōma manga will premiere in April.

The anime's character designs are also on display at Jump Festa, including the debut of Ikumi Mito's designs and the super-deformed designs:

The event distributed a special Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Sōma edition of the "Tōtsuki Sports" newspaper (which reported on the manga's television anime, novelization, and Jump+ web manga spinoff) and a Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Sōma calendar poster:

The event's food court area served exclusive Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Sōma beef stew, supervised by the manga's consultant and real-life chef Yuki Morisaki:

The manga's writer Yūto Tsukuda took some time to pose for a photograph before the giant mockup of a Weekly Shonen Jump magazine cover.

Yūto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki's original comedy manga centers on Sōma, who works with his dad at his family's restaurant. His dad is a culinary master, and he often hosts cooking battles with his father. His father then enrolls him in an elite culinary school that is very difficult to enter, and the graduation rate is only about 10 percent.

Yoshitsugu Matsuoka will play the titular character Sōma Yukihira. The other cast members include:

Yoshitomo Yonetani (Gaogaigar, Betterman) is directing the anime at J.C. Staff. Shogo Yasukawa (Terra Formars, Hyperdimension Neptunia, Invaders of the Rokujyōma!?) is in charge of the series scripts, and Tomoyuki Shitaya (Bakuman., BlazBlue Alter Memory, Hatsukoi Limited) is designing the characters. Jin Aketagawa is the sound director, and Tatsuya Katou (Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya, Free! - Iwatobi Swim Club, Medaka Box) is composing the soundtrack.

Saeki and Tsukuda launched the manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in November 2012, and Shueisha published the 10th compiled volume on November 4. Yuki Morisaki, a cosplay chef and model, also contributes to the manga, and each volume of the manga features recipes.

North American publisher Viz Media announced plans to release the manga in November 2013, and published the second compiled manga volume in North America on October 7. The company initially decided not to add the manga to its digital Weekly Shonen Jump anthology because the series is "a little racy," but later added the manga to the anthology's lineup.
