Viz Productions Will Adapt Sayuri Ueda's 'The Street of Fruiting Bodies' as Feature Film

Batman scribe Sam Hamm will adapt short story
Viz Media's film development division Viz Productions announced on Thursday that it is developing a feature film based on Sayuri Ueda's short story "The Street of Fruiting Bodies." Sam Hamm (Tim Burton's Batman) will write the screenplay.
Viz Media describes the story:
"The Street of Fruiting Bodies" depicts the sudden spread of a mysterious and lethal species of hallucinogenic mushroom. The infestation is deadly, but it also offers visions of deceased loved ones to the infected, hinting at the reality of an afterlife, or at least a new kind of existence that is beyond human comprehension.
Viz Media's Haikasoru imprint released the short story in its Phantasm Japan: Fantasies Lights and Dark, From and About Japan anthology in September.
