Digimonstory Cybersleuth Gameplay Previewed in Video

posted on by Karen Ressler
PS Vita game ships March 12 in Japan

Japanese video game news source Famitsu streamed a gameplay demonstration for the upcoming PlayStation Vita game Digimonstory Cybersleuth. Below are two segments, followed by the full two-hour presentation.

The game's story will follow either a female or male protagonist, depending on the player's choice. When strange phenomena begin occurring, the protagonist becomes a "Cybersleuth," and searches for the truth behind the mysteries along with his or her Digimon and their other human allies, Arata Sanada and Nokia Shiromine.

The game's setting is based off of real-world locations in Tokyo, Japan, including the Nakano and Akihabara districts. Throughout the city, "digital shifts" are beginning to occur, in which parts of the town are turned into data. The protagonist must use the incidents that come to Kyōko Kuremi's detective office as clues in order to attempt to take back his/her physical body from the digital world. By scanning data from enemy Digimon and bringing that data to Digimon Re:Digitize's character Mirei Mikagura, the player can make various Digimon into allies. Players can battle other players across the world by using online mode, or connect with local players through ad hoc mode.

The game's voice cast includes:

Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (The IDOLM@STER, Sword Art Online) and Rumi Ookubo (Pretty Rhythm Dear My Future, Galilei Donna) as the male and female protagonists, respectively

Megumi Han (Hunter × Hunter, Digimon Xros Wars: Toki o Kakeru Shōnen Hunter-tachi) as Nokia Shiromine

Daisuke Kishio (Mermaid Melody: Pichi Pichi Pitch, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal) as Arata Sanada

Maaya Sakamoto (Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Persona 3 the Movie #2 Midsummer Knight's Dream) as Kyōko Kuremi

Kanae Itō (Pretty Rhythm Dear My Future, Wolf Girl & Black Prince) as Yūko Kamishiro

Ayumu Murase (Chaika - The Coffin Princess AVENGING BATTLE, Haikyu!!) as the mysterious boy

Seira Ryū (Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal, Medamayaki no Kimi Itsu Tsubusu?) as Fay

Aya Hisakawa (Ah! My Goddess, Nyaruko: Crawling with Love!) as Rie Kishibe

Kōta Nemoto (Saint Seiya Omega, World Trigger) as Jimmy Ken

Masaru Ikeda (Yatterman, Manga Mito Kōmon) as Goro Matayoshi

Media Vision is developing the game and Masafumi Takada (Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc) is composing the music. As with the Digimon World Re:Digitize PSP game and its 3DS port Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode, artist and manga creator Suzuhito Yasuda (Durarara!!, Yozakura Quartet, Kamisama Kazoku) is once again providing the character designs for the game. Manga artist Oh! great (Air Gear, Tenjho Tenge) will also designed a monster for the game.

The game will involve an active turn-based battle system featuring combo attacks using multiple Digimon along with unique specialty attacks. The main character will have the “Connect Jump” ability, a power he/she obtained during an accident which allows him/her to travel to and from the local server of the digital world. After diving into the network dungeon which normal users cannot access, the player is able to hack through dense security by collecting Digimon.

The game will ship in Japan on March 12. First copies of the game will come with five bonuses: The ability to obtain a black-colored Agumon and Gabumon within the game, two original custom themes for the PlayStation Vita console, a costume-wearing Agumon that matches the clothes of the player as well as helpful items, the ability to download an extra mission early, and select sound data from composer Masafumi Takada.
