Nexus Animates Wakaba Girl Comedy Anime

Love Live!'s Hanada pens scripts, The irregular at magic high school's Ishida designs characters for July 3 short anime

The staff of the upcoming 30-minute anime programming block "Ultra Super Anime Time" announced on Saturday that Seiji Watanabe (Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid, Munto 2: Beyond the Walls of Time key animation) will direct the television anime adaptation of Yui Hara's four-panel comedy manga Wakaba Girl. In addition, Kana Ishida (Aquarion Evol, The irregular at magic high school) will design the characters, and Jukki Hanada (Love Live! School idol project, Petite Princess Yucie) will write the scripts.

Other anime that will run during the programming block will be the second season of Miss Monochrome, and the Wooser no Sono Higurashi Mugen-hen anime. Along with Wakaba Girl, all three anime will premiere on the block when it begins on July 3 at 11:00 p.m. JST. The block will also air on the BS11 channel beginning on July 5 at 25:00 JST (effectively 1 a.m. on July 6). The block will have a second cours (quarter of a year) in October.

The story centers around the activities of Wakaba Kohashi, "a slightly out-of-tune super" daughter of a well-to-do family, and her friends. Wakaba (literally, "young leaves") looks like an elegant rich daughter, but she admires the trendy "gyaru" fashion subculture. There is also the pure, innocent, fairy-tale-like Moeko. Mao is capricious and behaves in her own way. Nao used to be an athletic type of girl, but now loves the boys-love genre.

Hara originally serialized the manga in Sōsaku Kōbō's Otome Tsūshin publication in 2010, and Houbunsha then published the entire series in one book volume with an additional final chapter in 2013.

Another of Hara's four-panel comedy manga about girls, Kinmoza! Kiniro + Mosaic, also inspired a television anime in 2013 and a second anime season next month.
