Future researchers seek Lost Code to restoring Earth in Cambrian Era

The anime studios Production I.G and OLM are collaborating with NHK Educational on a science anime called Pikaia! The 13 15-minute episodes will run on public broadcaster NHK's E-Tele channel starting on April 29.

The story begins in the future when Earth itself is no longer inhabitable by living creatures. Humans began their interstellar migration with space colonies. Vince and Hana work as researchers in the Cambrian Project. Together with the creature Pikaia!, they seek the Lost Code, the key to restoring Earth, and aim to return to Cambrian-era Earth. (The Cambrian Era is when life evolved in complexity and rapidly spread across Earth 500 million years ago.)

The cast includes Hayato Taya as Vince, Ayaka Suwa as Hana, Kaori Mizuhashi as Pikaia!, Tōru Ohkawa as Dr. Parker, Hirofumi Nojima as Morris, Sayaka Kinoshita as Irma, Tetsu Inada as Frazer, and Aimi Tanaka as Wendy. Andrew Parker, the real-life professor at Great Britain's Natural History Museum, will also appear on the series.

Daiki Tomiyasu (episode director on Inazuma Eleven, Pokémon XY) is directing off scripts supervised by Jun'ichi Fujisaku (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Blood+, Ace of Diamond). The theme song is provided by elfin'.

The first four episodes will run at 10:00 a.m. on April 29, May 4, May 5, and May 6. The series will continue from episode 5 onward this summer.
