3 Anime Films of Project Itoh Novels Unveil New Visuals

posted on by Egan Loo
Genocidal Organ, Harmony, The Empire of Corpses to open in October, November, December

The official website for the anime films based on the late author Project Itoh's writing debuted new wallpaper visuals for all three films on Thursday. The visual for December's The Empire of Corpses features the main character John Watson and the team members who journey to seek out Victor Frankenstein's notes.

The story of The Empire of Corpses begins in 19th century London. In this world, "Frankensteins" — human corpses that are re-purposed with a false soul in order to use them as laborers — are used to push the industrial revolution forward. The British government scouts medical student John Watson (from the Sherlock Holmes stories) to become a Walsingham secret agent. The government asks him to join the search for the legendary writing, "Victor's Notes."

Genocidal Organ will open in October, and Harmony will open in November

Voice actress Kana Hanazawa narrated the February trailer for all three films:

Narrator: Project Itoh, the author who left this world too soon. In 2007, he hotly debuted with his Genocidal Organ novel. What was written was a story of a violent program that pushes humanity to genocide and the warriors that stand up against it. Two years later, Harmony becomes his posthumous work. What is written is a fabricated world that was created so kindly that it was hard to breathe in, and the screams of the soul who lost their place to belong there. Finally, The Empire of Corpses, which is an uncompleted story. He requested that the story be co-written by his dear friend, Toh Enjoe. It's the story of souls that remain in this world, despite their living bodies dying. Genocidal Organ, Harmony, The Empire of Corpses. Being adapted into anime films in 2015.

Genocidal Organ, Harmony, and Shisha no Teikoku (The Empire of Corpses) novels will all get film adaptations from different directors and studios. Shukou Murase (Witch Hunter Robin, Gangsta., Ergo Proxy) will direct Genocidal Organ at manglobe (The Unlimited - Hyōbu Kyōsuke, House of Five Leaves), Takashi Nakamura (Fantastic Children) and Michael Arias (Tekkonkinkreet) will direct Harmony at Studio 4°C (Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I - The Egg of the King, Tweeny Witches), while Ryōtarō Makihara will direct Shisha no Teikoku at WIT STUDIO (Attack on Titan, Hozuki no Reitetsu).

Project Itoh released Genocidal Organ as his debut novel in 2007, and his final novel, Harmony, debuted in Japan in 2008. Project Itoh wrote Harmony and the novel adaptation of Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots while he was being treated for the cancer that ultimately took his life in 2009. The Japanese film website Cinema Today reported in 2012 that film adaptation rights were being pitched in Hollywood.

Viz Media's Haikasoru imprint has published three of Itoh's full-length novels in English, excluding The Empire of Corpses.
