Film premiering as SM Cinema exclusive

Philippine cinema chain SM Cinema announced on its Facebook page on Tuesday that it will premiere the Love Live! The School Idol Movie film on October 7. The film will be exclusive to SM Cinema theaters. Singaporean anime distributor Odex will distribute the film.

SM Cinema describes the film:

Knowing that the graduation of the 3rd year members means the end of μ's (Muse), the nine girls take a walk around the school filled with memories. However, when the students attempt to leave the school gates, a single email is sent to them, and the curtain on a new story for μ's begins.

The film premiered in Japan on June 13, and earned 400 million yen (about US$3.24 million) on 121 screens in its first two days. The film eventually earned more than 2.3 billion yen (about US$18.4 million) as of August 11, 58 days after the film opened at the box office, surpassing the 2.08 billion yen (about US$17.7 million) box-office earnings of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion film, and the 2.28 billion (about US$18.2 million) yen gross of the Eiga Crayon Shin-chan: Ora no Hikkoshi Monogatari ~Saboten Daishūgeki film.

In 2010, the anime studio Sunrise, Lantis, and ASCII Media Works' Dengeki G Magazine launched Love Live! as a self-described "ultimate user-participation project" that lets its fans vote on the future of the fictional idols. A series of music CDs and animated music videos then followed. The members of the project announced in 2012 that a full anime series had been green-lit for the following year. The second season of the anime was announced in June 2013, and it debuted in April 2014.

Philippine television channel HERO TV aired the first season of the Love Live! School idol project TV anime in the Philippines in February, and aired the second season in May.
