Recording Studio Tavac Closes Original Location After 4 Decades

Voice actress Megumi Hayashibara revealed on her blog on Friday that recording studio Tavac Studio (Toei Audio Visual Art Center) is shutting down its original location in Shinjuku, Tokyo after more than 40 years. Hayashibara noted in her post that "it seems as though the reason is because of a problem with the building's resistance to earthquakes."

Toei Animation's English website states that TAVAC "was launched as the section handling the recording of full-length animation features and CF productions. It was also in charge of the finishing touches on editing and technology."

TAVAC opened in February 1973. The company mostly worked as a recording and editing studio for Toei Animation's works, such as One Piece, Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon S, Sailor Moon Crystal, Dokidoki! Precure, Futari wa Pretty Cure, Digimon Tamers, Digimon Fusion, Digimon Adventure 02, Kanon, Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, and Dragon Ball Super, as well as many Dragon Ball Z and One Piece films.

Aside from Toei Animation's works, the studio also handled the recording for the Neon Genesis Evangelion, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Fruits Basket, and X television anime series, among others. For video games, the studio handled the recording for the Xenosaga series as well as the Metal Gear Solid game.

Hayashibara posted pictures in her blog post from the studio, including the lobby, hallway, the recording room used for One Piece, the "in session" light on the recording room door, a grand piano in another recording room, and the room where she voiced roles in Neon Genesis Evangelion and Tekkaman Blade.
