Gundam UC Anime Gets TV Broadcast With New Opening, Ending Themes (Updated)

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Hiroyuki Sawano produces new themes for series premiering on April 3

The official Gundam.info portal site announced on Sunday that the Mobile Suit Gundam UC video anime series is getting a television broadcast run in Japan under the new title Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn RE:0096 starting on April 3. The series will air on Sundays at 7:00 a.m. on TV Asahi and its affiliated networks.

The anime is being reedited for the television version, and it will also feature a new opening and ending theme with new animated footage. Hiroyuki Sawano's vocal project SawanoHiroyuki[nZk] is producing both new songs. SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:Tielle is performing the opening theme song "Into the Sky," and SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:naNami will perform the ending theme song "Next 2U -eUC-."

Additionally, Shuuichi Ikeda will narrate the next episode preview footage each week as his character Full Frontal. The broadcasts will also have an optional on-screen data stream component. Viewers can use the data to play games online and win presents.

The anime adapts Harutoshi Fukui's original Mobile Suit Gundam UC novel series, which is mainly set in the year Universal Century 0096, 16 years after the events of the One Year War depicted in the first Mobile Suit Gundam anime, and three years after the Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack anime film. In a renewed conflict between the Earth Federation and Neo Zeon remnants, the Vist Foundation has a potentially devastating secret from the founding of the Federation a century before.

Sunrise released the seven-episode video anime series theatrically in Japan and on home video between 2010-2014. Right Stuf released the series in North America digitally via the PlayStation Store and physically on home video.

Update: Hiroyuki Sawano's website additionally revealed on Sunday that the anime will air for two cour or two quarters of a year. The same blog post adds that SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:Aimer — featuring vocals by Sawano's frequent contributor Aimer (Gundam UC sixth ending, No. 6, Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works themes) — will perform to the show's second ending theme song "bL∞dy f8 -eUC-." The CD featuring the theme songs will ship on June 29. [Via My Game News Flash]
