83,069 tickets sold before film extends into its 4th week

The second film in the Digimon Adventure tri. film series, Digimon Adventure tri. Ketsui (Determination), has sold 83,069 tickets for over 134 million yen (US$1.18 million) in 10 theaters between its opening day on March 12 and Sunday, March 27. It has topped the mini theater ranking (for limited-run films) for three weekends in a row.

Although it was previously scheduled for three weeks, it will continue into its fourth week on April 2. While supplies last, each movegoer in the movie's fourth week will receive a new illustration card (pictured above) of Mimi and Meiko drawn by character designer Atsuya Uki.

The film sold 27,506 tickets in its first weekend for a total box-office taking of more than 46 million yen (about US$407,000). It opened at #11 in the Japanese box office in terms of tickets sold. On the first day, March 12, the film sold 17,543 tickets for 30 million yen (about US$265,000), surpassing the day-one box office results of the first Digimon Adventure tri. film, Digimon Adventure tri. Saikai (Reunion). The first film went on to earn 180 million yen (about US$1.5 million) in its first 16 days in theaters.

Crunchyroll began streaming the film as four episodes for premium members earlier this month. The episode will be available for free members on April 10.

The first film opened in Japanese theaters on November 21, and Crunchyroll began streaming the film on the same day as four episodes. The third film, Digimon Adventure tri. Kokuhaku (Confession), will open on September 24. The project will have six films in total.
