Tekken's Harada, Appleseed's Aramaki, Production I.G Collaborate on 'Argyle Shift' VR Demo

Players can pilot giant robot, interact with female AI copilot

Katsuhiro Harada (Tekken series, "Summer Lesson") is supervising and writing the original plan for the robot shooting game demonstration "Argyle Shift," which utilizes the HTC Vive virtual reality (VR) headset. Production I.G is handling the world design and scenario, Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) is directing, and Takayuki Yanase (Ghost in the Shell Arise) is handling mechanical design.

The simulation will be one of six games available at Bandai Namco's "VR Zone: Project I Can" experience center. The center will open in Tokyo on April 15 to allow visitors to test VR technology and give feedback.

In "Argyle Shift," players are a test pilot for a giant robot called "Lucifer." The copilot will be a humanoid AI named "Aine" who appears as a girl and interacts with the player in a manner similar to Bandai Namco Games' earlier VR demonstration "Summer Lesson."

Bandai Namco Games and Harada unveiled its "Summer Lesson" VR demonstration software, which allows players to interact with a girl who recognizes the player's actions, in 2014. The demonstration has been a work in progress that has since been updated with a second, English-speaking girl, and showcased at E3 and Tokyo Game Show.
