Film about match girl whose matches make delusions into reality opens on May 28

The official website of the live-action film adaptation of Sanami Suzuki's The Little Match Girl (Match Shōjo) manga began streaming a trailer for the film on Monday in both 60-second and 30-second versions. The trailers preview the film's cast and story, and also feature Kūsō Iinkai's song "Nijūrasen Kōzō" (Double Helix Structure). The first video also previews Sayuri Murakami's song "Rakyō" (Setting Sun).

The site also revealed the film's new poster visual, as well as the main cast.

The film's main cast includes:

Sumire Satō as Rin

Yutaka Kobayashi (from BOYS AND MEN) as Isami Naitō

Takafumi Honda (from BOYS AND MEN) as Osamu Ujiie

Kenshō Ono as Kanato Kishida

Karen Miyama as Kanoko Tanaka

Yūka Ueno as Yōko Chōno

Fūka Yuzuki as Yuka Takahashi

Ei Morisako as Harumi Tomono

Other cast members include: Riku Ozeki, Nekomu Otogi, Kōjirō Oka, Gorō Ōishi, and Mitsuko Oka.

Hiroshi Uchida is directing the film, with Kitaji Ishikawa penning the script. Hori Pro is producing the film, and it is also distributing the film with Starcat. The film opens in Japan on May 28.

The original manga follows the somewhat mysterious daily life of an enigmatic girl named Rin. Her "delusion matches" turns momentary delusions into reality in their flickering flames. The name of the manga draws inspiration from a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.

Suzuki launched the manga in Kadokawa's Young Ace magazine in 2014. Kadokawa published the manga's third volume on March 2.
