36th Doraemon Film Opens in Singapore on June 9

Singaporean cinema chain Golden Village announced on Friday that it will open Doraemon the Movie: Nobita and the Birth of Japan 2016 (Eiga Doraemon Shin Nobita no Nihon Tanjō), the 36th anime film in the Doraemon franchise, in Singapore on June 9. GV Club members are able to participate in an advance screening on June 4. The film will open only at the GV Suntec City Hall cinema.
Golden Village is also streaming an English- and Chinese-subtitled trailer for the film.
Golden Village describes the film:
Doraemon and friends run away from their home and travel back in time to the 70,000 years ago where nobody existed to build their ideal private paradise. After they fully relished the freedom in the era, Doraemon and friends bid farewell to their paradise and come back to the present day. However, a few days after they came back home, Doraemon and friends bump into a caveman called “Kukul” in the current era. They find out that the caveman Kukul was accidentally transported forward to the present, and that his tribe called Hikari tribe was attacked and abducted by GIGAZONBIE and KURAYAMI tribe after Doraemon and friends left the primitive age. Doraemon and friends decide to go back to the primitive age to save Hikari tribe from the villain. They dive into a grand adventure during their first and the furthest runaway.
The film is the 11th installment and highest earning film in the new Doraemon film series. The film earned more than 4.037 billion yen (about US$37.7 million). The film sold about 3,559,400 tickets in the 62-day period from its opening on March 5 to May 5. The 2013 film Doraemon: Nobita no Himitsu Dōgu Museum held the previous record, with 3.98 billion yen (about US$37.2 million) in box-office earnings.
The film is a remake of the Doraemon: Nobita no Nihon Tanjō (Doraemon: Nobita at the Birth of Japan) film, which originally opened in Japan in March 1989. Tsutomu Shibayama (chief director of the 1979 Doraemon television anime series and many of the films) directed the film. The original film boasts the largest theatergoing audience in the Doraemon film franchise, with 4.2 million tickets sold.
The new Doraemon television and film series began when the current main voice acting team took over the roles of Doraemon, Nobita, Suneo, Shizuka, and Gian in 2005. The previous voice actors retired to make way for a younger cast.
