Company to release 3 anime in November

Anime News Network's New York Comic-Con 2016 news coverage sponsored by Yen Press.

FUNimation Entertainment revealed its November home video release lineup at its panel at Otakon on Friday, revealing that it has licensed the Sword of the Stranger anime film and the Omamori Himari and Good Luck! Ninomiya-kun television anime series.

Masahiro Ando (Under the Dog, Blast of Tempest, Snow White with the Red Hair) and studio BONES' Sword of the Stranger samurai anime film originally premiered in September 2007. The film centers on a nameless samurai ("Nanashi") and the boy he vows to protect from pursuing feudal factions. The film starred Tomoya Nagase as Nanashi and Yuri Chinen as Kotarō. Bandai Entertainment previously released the film on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in 2009.

Funimation will release Sword of the Stranger on a DVD and Blu-ray Disc combo pack on November 8.

Omamori Himari adapts Milan Matra's comedy manga series. The slapstick romantic comedy centers around an ordinary 16-year-old high school boy named Yūto Amakawa who is protected by a spirit — specifically, a beautiful, sword-wielding cat girl spirit named Himari. Yūto is descended from a family that has subjugated demons since time immemorial. The charm (omamori) that once protected him is now impotent, but fortunately, at that same moment, Himari appears before him as his new guardian. Shinji Ushiro (Blessing of the Campanella, We Without Wings - Under the Innocent Sky) directed the series at studio ZEXCS off of scripts by Katsumi Hasegawa (Blue Gender, Beyblade: Metal Fury).

Crunchyroll streamed the series is it aired in 2010, but the site is no longer streaming the series.

Funimation will release the series on DVD only on November 8.

Good Luck! Ninomiya-kun (Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun) revolves around a normal high school boy who finds himself living with a young female succubus. He attempts to help her conquer her fear of men. Her presence sparks a jealous rage in the boy's childhood friend, launching a romantic comedy of errors. The 12-episode series is based on author Daisuke Suzuki and illustrator Kyōrin Takanae's light novel series. The anime originally aired in 2007. Kōji Yoshikawa (D.N.Angel, Baki the Grappler) directed the series at AIC Spirits off of Akira Watanabe's (Ah! My Goddess, Girls Bravo) scripts.

Crunchyroll previously streamed the series starting in 2010, but the site is no longer streaming the series.

Funimation will release the series on DVD only on November 22.

Funimation had hosted an anime licensing survey in 2012 that featured Omamori Himari and Good Luck! Ninomiya-kun as possibilities.
