Daisuke Sakaguchi Plays Near in Live-Action Death Note Mini-Series Prequel

Final episode of 3-episode series premieres on Friday

The official website of Death Note Light up the NEW world, this year's live-action Death Note sequel film, announced on Thursday that voice actor Daisuke Sakaguchi (Gintama's Shinpachi Shimura, Baccano!'s Jacuzzi Splot) played Near in the live-action Death Note NEW GENERATION prequel mini-series currently streaming on Hulu Japan.

Near appeared in the show's second episode, which premiered on Hulu Japan on September 23. The mini-series has a total of three episodes.

Masahiro Higashide, Sōsuke Ikematsu, and Masaki Suda, who play the characters Tsukuru Mishima, Ryūzaki, and Yūki Shien in the film, respectively, are the focus of the mini-series. The second episode, titled "Ishi" (Dying Wish), focused on Ryūzaki, showing the incident that led him to the Death Note task force, and reveals his thoughts about L.

The first episode, "Shinsei" (Rebirth), centered on Mishima, showing how he was selected as the ace of the Death Note task force. The first episode premiered on September 16. The third episode, "Kyōshin" (Fanaticism), focuses on Shien and the trauma he carries. The third episode will premiere on September 30.

The Death Note Light up the NEW world film will open in Japan on October 29.
