Shogakukan Asia to Publish Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Manga

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
1st volume slated for January

Southeast Asian publisher Shogakukan Asia announced on Thursday that it will publish Hidenori Kusaka's Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire manga. The company will release the first volume in January.

Shogakukan Asia describes the manga:

Years have passed since we last saw Pokémon trainers Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. Now Sapphire and Emerald are training in the new techniques of Mega Evolution to prepare for the next crisis of epic proportions -- and they'll need Ruby's help.

A giant meteor is hurtling towards the planet! Searching for a way to change its course, Ruby journeys to the Sky Pillar to earn the trust of Zinnia, the Lorekeeper of the mysterious Draconid tribe. Does she have the key to saving the world?

And what does all of this have to do with the Legendary Pokémon Rayquaza?

Shogakukan's Web Sunday digital manga website began serializing the Pocket Monsters Special Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire arc manga in January 2015, and ended it on September 6. Shogakukan shipped the third and final compiled book volume on September 28. The manga serves as the 13th part of the Pocket Monsters Special manga series.

Nintendo released Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire in November 2014 for the Nintendo 3DS as remakes of the Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire games for the Game Boy Advance. Shogakukan Asia releases the Pokémon Adventures - Ruby & Sapphire, Pokémon: Black and White, Pokémon Adventures - XY, and other manga in the franchise in Southeast Asia.
