1st episode of main anime premieres on Friday

The official website for Saga of Tanya the Evil, the television anime adaptation of author Carlo Zen and illustrator Shinobu Shinotsuki's Yōjo Senki (The Military Chronicles of a Little Girl) light novel series, began streaming a preview for the show's first episode on Friday.

The website also began streaming "episode 00" of a "mini-anime" spinoff of the series, titled Yōjo Shenki.

Aoi Yūki reprises her role as Tanya Degurechaff in the anime shorts. Minoru Ashina (Boku, Otaryman, Kaiju Girls) is directing, producing, and writing the script for the shorts at Studio Puyukai. Miyahiko is in charge of the SD character designs, and Team-MAX's Shūji Katayama is composing the music.

The main anime will premiere on AT-X on January 6 at 10:00 p.m. The series will also air on Tokyo MX, Sun TV, KBS Kyoto, TV Aichi, and BS11. AbemaTV will stream the series in Japan. Crunchyroll and Funimation will stream the series. Crunchyroll will stream stream a subtitled version, and Funimation will stream an English-dubbed version. Crunchyroll describes the series:

It is June of the year CE 1923. A young girl with blond hair and blue eyes, Tanya Degurechaff, has entered the final curriculum of the Imperial Military Academy and is training at the third patrol line in the northern military district, the Norden Theater, as part of her service to the force. Her training, the first step toward a brilliant career as an aviation mage, should have gone off without a hitch... but things took an unexpected turn. War broke out between the Empire and the neighboring Federation committed a border transgression in entering the Empire. During the transition into wartime, she was assigned to observation duty, but a surprise attack by the Federation forces Tanya to engage in battle with the Federation's mage troops. She's greatly outnumbered with no chance of waiting for allies to arrive, but if she tries to flee, she'll be charged with the capital crime of deserting under enemy fire. In order to survive and convince the top brass that she did the best she possibly could, Tanya enacts a certain strategy...

Yutaka Uemura (The Mystic Archives of Dantalian) is directing the anime as the first major project of the relatively new studio NUT. Yuji Hosogoe (Kiddy Grade) is adapting Shinobu Shinotsuki's original novel character designs for animation, and also serving as chief animation director with assistant director Kana Harufuji. Kenta Ihara (Ajin) is supervising and writing the series scripts, and Shūji Katayama (Overlord, Popin Q, Super Lovers 2) is composing the music. MYTH&ROID performs the opening theme song "Jingo Jungle," and Aoi Yūki performs the anime's ending theme song "Los! Los! Los!".
