New series to feature all-female scriptwriters, main cast

TV Tokyo opened a teaser website on Friday to announce that the Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories television anime series is getting a fifth season starting in July.

The scriptwriters for the new season are all women, including: Yuko Ichiki, Satoko Kishino, and Ayako Yamaguchi. The anime will star:

Kanji Tsuda returns as the narrator.

Shinji Nishikawa, Ryō Kudō, and Ayuki Mimata are returning from the fourth season to animate the series, alongside Yū Ebihara, Jun Honda, and Kōki Mogi. ILCA is again producing the series with cooperation from Gorilla Film. Hiromu Kumamoto (scriptwriter or the previous four series) is the production adviser. Female singer and songwriter Higuchiai is performing the ending theme song "Yawarakai Kamen" (Soft Mask).

The anime's fourth season premiered in January. Crunchyroll has streamed all four seasons of the anime.

The original series of anime shorts featured six-minute horror stories based on urban legends. The shorts are inspired by Shōwa-era illustrated paper theater productions.
