Kemono Friends Stage Play to Return in 2018

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Play ran from June 14-18

The staff of the stage play adaptation of Nexon and Mine Yoshizaki's Kemono Friends franchise announced on Sunday that the stage play will have a second run at the AiiA 2.5 Theater Tokyo on January 13-21, 2018.

The play ran at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel Club eX in Tokyo last week from Wednesday to Sunday. Hiroki Murakami directed the play and penned the script. The play had an original story

The cast includes (from left to right beginning with first row above):

The cast of the Dōbutsu Biscuit (Serval, Fennec, Raccoon) and Penguins Performance Project or "PPP" (Royal, Rockhopper, Gentoo, Humboldt, and Emperor Penguins) units from the anime all reprised their roles in the stage play. The other cast members are new.

In addition to the stage play, Bushiroad is developing multiple Kemono Friends games, including a brand-new game for smartphones slated for this summer. The anime is getting "original content" on TV Tokyo's new AniTele app, which launched on April 1. The staff for the anime announced a "new screen project" for Kemono Friends last month.

The 12-episode Kemono Friends television anime premiered on TV Tokyo and TV Osaka on January 10 and ended on March 28. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired. The anime received an unofficial "episode 12.1" that was not part of the new screen project.

Nexon's original app game launched in early 2016 and ended service on December 14 — before the anime even premiered. Nexon announced in February that the app would not return despite the anime's popularity, but a spokesperson for Nexon later stated that the return of the smartphone app "is possible." In the RPG, animals around the world have transformed into girls and players could recruit them into their party for battle.
