Barakamon and Daimidaler Released Monday (Updated)

An earlier version of this story wrongly said that the second volume of Snow White with the Red Hair would also be released on Monday. In fact, it is now scheduled for August 28. Apologies for the mistake.

On Monday July 31, Funimation will release Barakamon as a Blu-ray/DVD combi pack. Funimation, which distributed the series in America, described the series:

An aspiring artist's world is about to be turned upside down.

Seishu exiles himself to a small island to rediscover his passion as a calligrapher after violently attacking one of his most vocal critics. While the Goto Islands appear to be a tranquil paradise on the surface, this young mapmaker soon learns that wacky neighbors and hyperactive children just might provide him the sense of humor he needs on his journey towards self-discovery.

Kinema Citrus (Yuyushiki, Code:Breaker) produced Barakamon for Nippon TV. Masaki Tachibana (Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky) directed the series off of Pierre Sugiura's (Yuyushiki, Bottom Biting Bug) scripts. Majiro (Nagareboshi Lens) handled the character designs, and Kenji Kawai (Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit, Patlabor 2: The Movie) handled the music. Satsuki Yoshino launched the original manga in Square Enix's Gangan Online magazine in 2009.

Funimation will also release Daimidaler: Prince vs. Penguin Empire on Blu-ray. Funimation described the series:

The creators of High School DxD bring you a ridiculously raunchy romp through a world filled with mechs powered by perversion! The earth is under attack by the alien Penguin Empire and only heroes able to produce Hi-Ero particles need apply. Piloting the Daimidaler mechs are master pervert Kouichi with his take-no-prisoners libido and Kiriko, a girl who can level cities just by thinking of her boyfriend. It's up to them to dodge the massive front tails of the filthy penguin commandos and go toe to toe with rival mechs powered by a girl who loves penguins a little too much. The series reunited the staff of the High School DxD television anime series, with director Tetsuya Yanagisawa (Heaven’s Lost Property the Movie: The Angeloid of Clockwork, Destiny of the Shrine Maiden, Shattered Angels), scriptwriter Takao Yoshioka (Ikki Tōsen, Elfen Lied), character designer and chief animation director Junji Gotō (School Days), production company GENCO, and animation studio TNK (Ikki Tōsen: Xtreme Xecutor). Ibuki Kido, Ayaka Ōhashi, and Azusa Tadokoro performed the ending theme "Suki Suki//Links" as their characters.

The anime is inspired by Asami Nakama's original Daimidaler the Sound Robot manga, which ran in Enterbrain's Fellows! magazine (now known as Kadokawa's harta magazine) from 2008 to 2012, and Kadokawa published four compiled book volumes. In October 2013, Nakama launched a sequel called Kenzen Robo Daimidaler OGS that runs in harta every other month. Funimation previously streamed the anime as it aired in Japan this past spring.

In addition, two new editions are previously-released films are due. Manga Entertainment will release Bleach the Movie: Hell Verse, the fourth film spinoff from the Bleach anime series, as a Blu-ray. Anime Limited will release the Psycho-Pass cinema feature film as a Blu-ray.
