Aniplus-Asia Adds Psycho-Pass Anime Film to VOD Service

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Film debuted in January 2015

Aniplus-Asia revealed on Friday that it has added the Psycho-Pass anime film to its video-on-demand service.

Aniplus-Asia describes the film:

Japan has begun exporting the Sibyl System technology to other countries with the hope that it will one day be used all around the world. In order to test its effectiveness in a foreign location, the war-torn state of the South East Asian Union (SEAUn) decides to implement the system. However, a group of anti-Sibyl terrorists arrive in Japan, and the Ministry of Welfare's Public Safety Bureau discovers that the invaders are being aided by Kogami Shinya, a former Enforcer. Because of their past relationship, Tsunemori Akane is sent to SEAUn to bring him back.

The film opened in January 2015 at #4 in the Japanese box office and earned 247.8 million yen (US$2.08 million). The film won several honors at the Newtype Anime Awards 2015. Aniplus-Asia opened the film in Singapore theaters in June 2015.

The Psycho-Pass movie is based on the original Psycho-Pass TV anime series, which first aired in 2012. The series received a second season, which premiered in October 2014. Aniplus-Asia aired a simulcast of the anime.

Writer Makoto Fukami (Chotto Kawaii Iron Maiden, Ōsama-tachi no Viking) wrote the film's screenplay with Gen Urobuchi. Fukami had collaborated with Urobuchi on the first season of Psycho-Pass, but Tow Ubukata handled series composition of the second season.
