Section23 to Release Naisho no Tsubomi, Kissdum R - Engage Planet Anime

Sentai Filmworks, Maiden Japan license anime for January releases

Section23 Films announced in its January release slate on Thursday that its Sentai Filmworks label will release the Naisho no Tsubomi original video anime (OVA) on DVD on January 9. In addition, its Maiden Japan imprint will release the KISSDUM R - Engage Planet (Engage Planet Kiss Dum) anime on Blu-ray Disc on January 2. Both will be in Japanese with English subtitles.

The three-episode Naisho no Tsubomi OVA adapts Yū Yabuuchi's award-winning "girls' sex education" manga. Sentai Filmworks describes the story:

Just as Tsubomi is getting ready to start the fifth grade, everything she thought she knew about her life suddenly starts to change. Not only has her mother just told her that she's about to become a big sister, but Tsubomi's been starting to feel a little strange herself and it seems that there's a lot more to growing up than she thought! Unfortunately, people's bodies don't come with owners' manuals, so Tsubomi will have to rely on advice from her friends at school and most of them don't know any more than she does. (Some of them are even BOYS!) Fortunately, there's that mysterious new transfer student, Saya, who seems to be a bit more knowledgeable, and with some help from Mom, Tsubomi just might make it through adolescence unscathed in NAISHO NO TSUBOMI!

The anime debuted in 2008. Akira Shigino (Magical Idol Pastel Yumi) directed the OVA and Naruhisa Arakawa (Action Heroine Cheer Fruits) handled series composition.

The 26-episode KISSDUM R - Engage Planet anime premiered in 2007. Maiden Japan describes the story:

The destruction of a cruise ship leaves thousands dead, but the body count is only beginning. As researchers try to make sense of the strange new fish and insects appearing around the world, scientist Rurika Yuno and the N.I.D.F. attempt to track down the source of the mutation, a mysterious artifact called The Book of the Dead. When the Book is finally located, all Hell breaks loose. Literally. As swarms of hellspawned fireflies and giant unearthly creatures attack mercilessly across the planet, Rurika is forced to use the Book to resurrect her dead lover, fighter pilot Aiba Shu. But can even humanity's last desperate line of defense - the Necrodiver - defeat an ancient evil whose only goal is to exterminate all mankind?

Hidekazu Sato (Aquarion Logos) directed the anime at Satelight. It features character designs by Sushio (Kill la Kill), mechanical design by Shōji Kawamori (Macross), and art design by Thomas Romain (Basquash!).

Bandai Visual USA licensed but indefinitely postponed the North American release the series. It was never released before Bandai Namco Holdings liquidated the company and merged it with Bandai Entertainment.

Section23's January slate also includes Typhoon Noruda on Blu-ray Disc, and Haikyu!! Season 2 and Tanaka-kun is Always Listless on Blu-ray Disc, DVD, and premium edition Blu-ray/DVD combo packs.
