Ta ga Tame no Alchemist Social Game Gets Theatrical Project with Shoji Kawamori

Film slated for game's 3rd anniversary in 2019

Fuji & gumi Games announced at a two-year anniversary event for its Ta ga Tame no Alchemist (For Whom the Alchemist) simulation role-playing smartphone and PC game on Saturday that the game is getting a theatrical project. The event revealed that Macross director Shōji Kawamori is serving as chief director on the project.

Kawamori was first involved in the game when he directed the game's opening video (seen below), which led to his involvement with the film.

The announcement did not state whether the film would be anime or live-action, but Kawamori stated in the announcement that the film will be "not just for fans of the game, or anime, or fantasy, but will also expand on the game's world and stand alone as its own story."

Yōko Hikasa, who plays the role of Agatha in the game, sang the game's theme song "Ta ga Tame ni" (For the Sake of Another), which features in the game's opening video.

Jun Imaizumi, the game's producer, announced during the event that he has finished writing the first draft of the film's script, and also noted the the film is aimed for release around the time of the game's third anniversary (January 2019).

Fuji & gumi Games released the game in January 2016. The game is a tactical role-playing game centered on seven characters and themed around the seven deadly sins. The game is set in the continent of Babel, where the Tower of Babel looms large over seven nations. After the invention of alchemy led to its use as a tool of war that brought humanity to the brink of extinction, the seven nations struck an uneasy peace that led to a prohibition on alchemy for hundreds of years since. In the Continental Year 911, the nation of Lustrice broke the pact by assembling an army bolstered by alchemy, with ambitions of conquest over the continent. Led by Envylia, the six nations allied and struck down the rogue nation, casting alchemy once again to darkness. But 20 years after the war, alchemy once again begins to cause chaos in the land.

Production I.G and Naoyoshi Shiotani (Psycho-Pass) previously worked on a prequel concept anime film based on Fuji & gumi Games' Phantom of the Kill game titled "Phantom of the Kill -Zero Kara no Hangyaku-" (Phantom of the Kill: Treason From Zero), which debuted online in May 2015.
