2017 series adapted novels about diving club

Sentai Filmworks announced on Tuesday that it has licensed the anime adaptation of Eto Mori's DIVE!! youth novel series in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Wales, Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia, South Africa, Latin America, Spain, and Portugal. The company plans to release the series for purchase in December.

The anime premiered on Fuji TV's Noitamina block in July 2017 and streamed through Amazon's now defunct Anime Strike channel in the United States.

Kaoru Suzuki (Pupipō!, episode director for Hellsing TV, Battery the Animation, Inuyasha) directed the series at ZERO-G, and Touko Machida (Lucky Star, Endride, Wake Up, Girls!) oversaw the scripts. Suzuhito Yasuda (Yozakura Quartetmanga creator, character designer for Durarara!!, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?) handled the original character design, and Miyako Yatsu (Eyeshield 21: The Phantom Golden Bowl, Idaten Jump) adapted the character designs for animation, and is also credited as the chief animation director. Yuuki Hayashi (Kiznaiver, My Hero Academia, Welcome to the Ballroom) and Kohta Yamamoto composed the music.

Mori (Colorful original creator, screenplay for Black Jack OAV, Black Jack The Movie) wrote the original four-volume novel series between 2000 and 2002. The series revolves around the Mizuki Diving Club (MDC), which is on the verge of closing down after having financial troubles. The club's new coach persuades the club's parent company to stay open on one condition: that the club sends one of its members to next year's Olympics as part of Japan's Olympic team.

In addition to the anime, the novels have inspired a five-volume manga adaptation in 2007-2008 a live-action film adaptation in 2008, another manga that began in 2017, and an upcoming stage play.
